Kat Kiernan

States that had granted women partial voting rights used separate ballot boxes for men and women voters. These boxes were placed out in the open to prevent women from secretly casting ballots for offices for which they were restricted from voting. In my piece, “The Voting Booth,” I use a photobooth as a voting booth, equating the private spaces of each as a place to make one’s self heard.

 

 

Kat Kiernan is an artist whose autobiographical work explores themes of fragility, uncertainty, often using herself as her subject. She has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the United States and been featured in publications including China Life, Lenscratch, and The Woven Tale Press. In 2012, she was named one of Artpil’s “30 under 30” women photographers to watch. Kat lives in Brooklyn where she is the Editor-in-Chief of the photography magazine Don’t Take Pictures.
